for the kind of $$$$$$$$$ they demand for those things, I feel like that shouldn;t happen, at least the wobble that occurs in the first image. It looks like the whole body is twisting/wobbling.

They’re not designed for anything like this.

It’s perfectly acceptable.

Just watched that. Not sure whats happening with the first one but the second one isn’t remotely surprising, that happens to me all the time (not to this extreme but if I corner hard the inside front spins a little)

At first I thought “nah, that’s an uncommon issue with land cruisers” then I realized there is literally zero percent land cruiser in that setup. Its a fully custom front axle system and it looks like their engineers need to work a little harder on their steering rod angles.

Yes, three wheels is funny-awesome, flex is funny-scary. As its playing he describes an oscillation of the front tires during braking. I originally thought something went sideways in the editing room and the clip playing was of the driver sawing at the wheel. Looked again and his hand is steady. Scary.

This is a common issue on Jeeps, some Fords and a few others but for whatever reason its pretty rare on Land cruisers and if its happening there are components that are WAY worn out. I remember hearing sportsmobile saying that when they engineered their front axle system they completely re-engineered the steering system so as to remove the need for a steering damper and virtually eliminated the potential for death wobble. I’m no sciencetician, but I’m pretty sure that engineering out death wobble is absolutely a thing.

I never understood how death wobble has been a thing for so long on several vehicles. My cruiser has all sorts of drive-line vibrations on the highway but those are just from big tires and a stock driveshaft with a 4" lift, but its never had death wobble.

Thats my thinking as well, I know it CAN happen to our trucks, but its very rare...and I can’t imagine that’s accidental. How’s it coming btw?

Back in grad school so I’m not in the same state as the truck. Doubt I’ll make it home this summer either so shes going to have to sit for a while...

Indeed - I should probably take the time to build out a Mud thread as I’m sure I will hit road blocks and need to ask some questions when I get back to work.

What’s the front suspension and steering setup like on a cruiser? On the Jeeps, it’s because of the way the five-link interacts with the steering setup, the drag link and track bar are a parallelogram, but get anything a little out of line and it over-constrains, and any up-and-down movement also turns into a left-and-right, and vice versa. The tie-rod (that runs between both front wheels) also tends to act like a spring and just make the issue worse. It’s mostly an issue with improperly configured lifts or poor-quality (or just worn out) components that don’t meet spec, or quickie alignment shops that don’t bother checking caster and camber.

I saw a death wobble on a lifted Ram 2500 a few weeks back. I was about 150 behind him and could see the front tires shaking. Had to be terrifying in the vehicle at highway speeds.
